Q. Where can I camp in the Northport-Omena area?
A. Check out Leelanau State Park north of Northport. It’s part of the Michigan State Parks System and offers a rustic campground and two mini cabins that sleep four each. You can check it out at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources site
Q. Are there hiking trails in the area?
A. Yes, there are hiking trails at the Leelanau State Park as well. This 1,350 acre state park offers eight and a half miles of trails for cross country skiing or hiking depending on the season. You can also enjoy looking for Petoskey stones, swimming, picnicking, and a playground area. It also has the Grand Traverse Lighthouse Museum on its grounds. Museum tours are an additional charge beyond the park entrance fees.

A. In 2009 the population of Leelanau Township, which includes Northport, Omena and the surrounding area was 2,215.

A. There’s a lot to do. It’s a great day to check out all the shops in town, a nice time to stop at one of our local restaurants or to tour a local museum. Here are a few activities that are sure to please:

Q. Is there public beach access in Northport and Omena?
A. There are two public beaches in Northport, at Marina Park and at Haserot Park. There is also a public beach in Omena on beautiful Omena Bay. North of Northport you can enjoy the beach at Peterson Park and get a workout in by climbing the staircase down the cliff to the lake (the real workout comes when you climb back up). The beach at the Leelanau State Park near the lighthouse is a great place to search for Petoskey stones.
